Terms of Service
Last updated 8 October 2026
These terms cover the SaltMate salt-level monitor, the SaltMate mobile app, the web dashboard, this website and the cloud service that connects them (together, “SaltMate”). SaltMate is operated by ArmoTech Corporation (“ArmoTech”, “we”, “us”). By creating an account, using the app or dashboard, or using a SaltMate monitor, you agree to these terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use SaltMate. Our Privacy Policy explains what information we use and why.
Your account
- You need an account to set up a monitor, see its readings and get alerts. Please give accurate details and keep your password private.
- You’re responsible for what happens under your account. Tell us at support@saltmate.ai if you think someone else has used it.
- SaltMate is meant for adults managing a household water softener.
- You can delete your account at any time in the app under Settings → Delete Account.
What SaltMate does, and what it doesn’t
SaltMate measures the distance from your tank lid down to the salt with a time-of-flight laser, and the app turns that into a fill level using the tank depth you enter. Run-out dates, salt-use figures and cost estimates are estimates based on your past readings, not guarantees.
- Readings can be affected by an uneven salt surface, obstructions, mounting position, the tank depth you set, battery level and WiFi signal. SaltMate does not measure salt weight or water hardness.
- The monitor sleeps between scheduled readings, so the level you see is from the last reading, which the app always shows.
- Alerts depend on a successful reading, a working internet connection, our cloud service, and notifications being allowed on your phone. They can be delayed or missed.
SaltMate is a convenience, not a safety device. Keep checking your softener as its manufacturer recommends; don’t rely on SaltMate as the only way you know it needs salt.
Installing and using the monitor
- Follow the setup steps in the app. Mount the monitor on a flat area inside the lid, above the salt and water, with a clear view down to the salt.
- The enclosure is not waterproof. Protect it from splashes and submersion and keep the sensor opening clear.
- Use three AA alkaline batteries, replace them when the app asks, and dispose of old batteries properly. Keep batteries and small parts away from children.
- Don’t open, modify or repair the electronics. Doing so may damage the monitor.
Sharing a monitor
If you share a monitor, the people you invite can see its readings and get its alerts. You can remove them, and they can leave, at any time. Only invite people you trust, and only share a monitor that’s yours to share.
Updates
We improve SaltMate over time. The app may ask you to update, and monitor firmware updates are offered in the app (or install automatically if you turn that on). Features may change, and we may stop offering a feature if we need to.
Waitlist and orders
Joining the waitlist is not an order or a reservation, and you don’t pay anything. We’ll email you when SaltMate is ready to order. Prices, availability and specifications may change before then. The terms of sale, including shipping, returns and warranty, will be shown to you before you buy.
Fair use
Please don’t:
- try to access other people’s accounts or monitors, or get around our security;
- interfere with, overload or attack the SaltMate service, apps or website;
- use automated tools to scrape or abuse the website, the waitlist or the support form;
- use SaltMate for anything unlawful.
We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms.
Other services
You get the app from the Apple App Store or Google Play, and their terms also apply to the download. SaltMate relies on services from other companies, such as Google Firebase, to run; our Privacy Policy lists them.
Ownership and trademarks
The SaltMate app, firmware, website, designs and content belong to ArmoTech or its licensors. You may use the app and dashboard for your own household use; please don’t copy, resell or reverse-engineer them except where the law allows it.
SaltMate and the SaltMate logo are trademarks of ArmoTech. Apple, the Apple logo, iPhone and iPad are trademarks of Apple Inc., registered in the U.S. and other countries. App Store is a service mark of Apple Inc. Google Play and the Google Play logo are trademarks of Google LLC.
Our responsibility
We work to keep SaltMate accurate and available, but we provide it “as is” and can’t promise it will always be error-free or uninterrupted. To the extent the law allows, we are not responsible for indirect or consequential losses, such as softener damage, hard-water effects, salt or service costs, or lost time, that come from using or not being able to use SaltMate. To the extent the law allows, our total responsibility to you is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.
Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer-protection laws that can’t be waived, including Ontario’s Consumer Protection Act, 2002.
Changes to these terms
If we change these terms we’ll update this page and the date above. For important changes we’ll also let you know in the app or by email. If you keep using SaltMate after a change, the updated terms apply.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. Disputes go to the courts of Ontario, unless the consumer law where you live gives you the right to bring them somewhere else.
