This policy covers the SaltMate salt-level monitor, the SaltMate mobile app, the web dashboard at saltmate.ai/app and this website. It explains what we collect, why, who helps us run the service, and how to delete your data.
What we collect
Your account
Your email address. Your password is handled by Google Firebase Authentication; SaltMate never sees or stores it.
Your monitor
- Salt readings: the distance from the sensor to the salt, and when it was measured.
- Battery voltage and level, WiFi signal strength, the name of the WiFi network it uses, its local network address, firmware version and diagnostic status.
- When you set up or change WiFi, your network password is passed to the monitor. It is removed from our database once the monitor confirms it has connected.
Settings you enter
Monitor names, tank depth and full line, alert choices and threshold, time zone, and the salt price and bag count used for cost estimates.
Notifications
A push-notification token for your phone, so alerts reach it.
This website
We may use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used (pages viewed and on-page actions such as using the tank demo), with IP anonymisation on and Google signals off. The web dashboard keeps a small sign-in marker in your browser.
How we use it
- To show your salt level, history, run-out forecast and cost estimates.
- To send the alerts you turn on: low salt, salt running out, monitor offline, possible salt bridge and batteries.
- To keep your monitor connected and working, and to help when you contact support.
We don't sell your personal information or use it for advertising.
Who helps us run SaltMate
Google Firebase (sign-in, database, cloud functions and push notifications), Google Analytics (website statistics) and Vercel (website hosting). They process data on our behalf, which can mean it is stored or processed outside your country, including in the United States.
How long we keep it, and deleting it
We keep your data while your account is open. To delete it, open the SaltMate app and go to Settings → Delete Account. That permanently deletes your account, your salt history and your settings, and unlinks your monitors so they can be set up again. You can also ask us to delete it for you.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit. Each monitor signs in with its own credentials, and database rules only let a monitor's owner read its data.
Children
SaltMate is meant for adults managing a household water softener, not for children.
